Reebok Legacy Lifter 3 Review: The Deep Squat Solution

If you have issues squatting under a heavy load without your chest caving in, the Reebok Legacy Lifter 3 is most probably a shoe for you. Unlike most of the weightlifting shoes out there, which have an approximate heel lift of 19 mm, Reeboks have 22 mm.

This additional lift can be a lifesaver for people with tight ankles, as it allows for a much more upright torso position when performing heavy cleans, snatches, and front squats. One of the legendary innovations of Reebok, which made the return to the women's market possible, is the pump in the tongue of the shoe.

The Key Specs

Heel Height: 0.86 inches (22 mm)

Materials: Extra-hard TPU plastic heel

Lockdown: Single midfoot strap + Inflatable Pump tongue.

Fit: Neutral width, true to size.

Best For: Olympic weightlifting, tall lifters, and stiff ankles.

The feel on the platform

The Legacy Lifter 3’s primary attribute is its weight. This is a very heavy shoe, made from dense material. If you are used to doing fast, agile, and changing-direction movements in the name of exercise, it would feel like running on bricks. However, if your training consists of squatting heavy weights to a parallel position, then this shoe’s mass will feel like a blessing that hugs your feet.

The pump technology is a thing of beauty and a throwback to the old school. After securing the shoe with a single strap at the midfoot, you have to pump some air into the middle of the shoe. It inflates a tongue that molds into the shape of your foot and eliminates all sloppiness at the top. Combined with the thick, 22 mm heel and a wide rubber sole, it provides a sensation of being glued to the floor.

Sizing Advice

If you have average-to-wide feet, these shoes should feel snug but not squished. They have a good toe box, so ordering your usual size should be sufficient. If you have narrow feet, your experience may vary. They may feel a bit too wide for narrow feet. However, a midfoot strap may not provide a satisfying tightness because of the short Velcro tab. Perhaps, consider ordering a narrow shoe size.

The Pros:

  • The massive 22 mm heel immediately increases squat depth;
  • The pump tongue and midfoot strap provide a solid lockdown
  • The built mass creates an unparalleled grounded sensation.

The Cons:

  • They are expensive for what you get;
  • Their weight may feel unnecessary and
  • The Velcro strap area is short.

The Reebok Legacy Lifter 3 is a premium-level and brutally honest weightlifting shoe. It prioritizes maximum stability and height differential over comfort and everyday use. If you have stiff ankles, are tall and need extra help squatting parallel, or simply want to feel planted during a one-rep max attempt, these are the shoes for you.
